Parkview Warsaw Complex-Warsaw Med Complex Lab Professional - Non Clinical - Part Time, Nights, 36 hours/week; 10:00pm - 6:30am; weekend rotation Posted 2018-08-22 Req # 134555 Summary The Certified Medical Lab Scientist is responsible for accurately performing medical laboratory tests following established laboratory policies and procedures; adhering to performance and quality standards. The Lab Scientist is responsible for clinical instrument maintenance, for new test and instrumentation development. The Lab Scientist is responsible for training of other laboratory co-workers. The Lab Scientist actively participates in the overall functioning of the clinical laboratory, assuming leadership or member roles on committees and projects. The Lab Scientist is responsible for keeping the laboratory in continuous readiness for inspection. The Lab Scientist possesses an extensive knowledge of techniques, instruments, and the basic medical sciences. The Lab Scientist is responsible for the consequences of his/her own decisions and capable of supervising others. Education # Bachelor of Science required. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Clinical Laboratory Science program preferred. (In some exceptions, individuals have taken an alternative route, and have become Certified Medical Lab Scientists with an associate degree. These exceptions should be carefully evaluated and approved by the Director of Laboratories. ) Due to CLIA regulations, transcripts of education and training will be verified. For Cytogenetics department, requirements are as follows: Must successfully complete a NAACLS baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate cytogenetics education program (hospital or university based) that includes the equivalent of six months of full time experience in a cytogenetics laboratory; OR must have a baccalaureate degree and successfully complete a NAACLS program in clinical laboratory science OR have a baccalaureate degree in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences from a college or university, and complete the equivalent of one year full-time work experience within the last two years in a cytogenetics laboratory; OR must have a baccalaureate degree from a college or university and complete 36 semester hours of college course work in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences (in addition to or part of the baccalaureate degree), and complete the equivalent of one year of full-time work experience within the last two years in a cytogenetics laboratory. Licensure/Certification At the time of hire or promotion, must be a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (certification by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the National Credentialing Agency, the American Medical Technologists, or the Board of Registry of the American Association of Bioanalysts).# OR, may be certified as a Microbiologist by the ASCP #or NCA (Microbiology department only). # Other Qualifications Must have visual acuity and color discrimination.
