Job Description:

AK Steel, Rockport Works, is currently seeking a Maintenance Planner/Shift Manager at 6500 N. US 231, Rockport, IN for the Pickling Department. Under the direction of the Maintenance Section Manager, the Maintenance Planner/ Shift Manager position is responsible for planning and coordinating schedules, parts and personnel needed for daily and/or downturn maintenance of equipment, machinery, tools, or buildings to assure maximum utilization of resources with minimum impact on production.

Primary Activities:

  • Management and enforcement of Safety policies and procedures as well as execution to requirements of the safety observation program

  • Providing leadership to hourly employees to ensure safety and quality requirements and objectives are met

  • Reviews manufacturers' service manuals, equipment usage schedules, and records of maintenance issues to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.

  • Studies production and operation schedules, confers with Maintenance Section Manager and other staff to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with operation of establishment.

  • Evaluate requests for Maintenance Service's for validity, parts, priority, procedures, skills needed, and date of completion.

  • Estimates costs of personnel, parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance. Obtains bids and orders parts when necessary.

  • Maintains records of planned and completed maintenance.

  • Monitors backlogs, delays, break-ins, and Daily Maintenance Plan reports.

  • Develops and coordinates plans for reconstruction or installation of new equipment, machinery, or buildings.

  • Conducts meetings, prepares reports and maintains required records as necessary.

  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system data base and/or Gantt Charts to manage maintenance activity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in General Management or Technical field or combination of education / experience

  • Journeyman rating or licensure in function overseen (preferred)

  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills

  • Strong electrical or mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience.

  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal and communications skills.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Flexibility to work extended hours, nights, and or weekends when necessary

  • With or without reasonable accommodations, must be capable of performing all essentials of the job which requires the use of hands, fingers, standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time, occasional climbing and stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 50 pounds, wearing required personal protective equipment, working around high speed mechanical equipment, occasionally exposure to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, radiation and vibration, as well as have clear close and distant vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
