Senior Engineering Technologist

Duties & Responsibilities

With minimal supervision and increased latitude for un-reviewed work:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems associated with all aspects of relay construction activities.

  • Provide relay technical expertise and on-site support for the installation of protection and control relays, power line carrier, SCADA and digital fault recorders.

  • Review in-service readings, relay test reports, instrument transformer test reports, etc. to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Review issued relay settings files for deficiencies and suggest/document improvement opportunities.

  • Review/prepare procedures necessary for the in-servicing of new equipment.

  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.

  • Collaborate closely with C&M NERC compliance to ensure relay technician work processes align with regulatory requirements.

  • Troubleshoot, document and share information to resolve problems associated with PC software functionality, software upgrades and software installation.

  • Collaborate with peer engineering technologists and relay technicians to update and improve the CST work practice manual to include detailed methods to drive consistency throughout the region.

  • Develop and maintain a repository for non-Nerc testing date such as test reports and CT test results.

  • Participate in stand up meetings and present technical material to educate/inform other Engineering Technologists and Technicians.

  • Participate in project scoping meetings and utilize experience and professional judgment to anticipate and prevent technicians from work in error likely situations.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology with a minimum of six (6) years of industry experience, OR an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience, OR a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in lieu of a degree

Desired Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in relay construction.

  • Working knowledge of both Electromechanically and Microprocessor relays.

  • Extensive knowledge of relay commissioning principles .

  • Experience with Enoserv RTS.

  • Knowledge of the processes required to meet NERC regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledgeable with SCADA systems.

  • Knowledgeable with power line carrier systems.

Working knowledge of the red-line drawing process
