Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, to perform limited assignments covering skilled operations in, and to assist employees of higher line classifications engaged in, the installing, removing and maintaining of transmission and distribution poles, towers, conductors, cables, transformers, switches, regulators and other line equipment devices and appurtenances, services, street lighting equipment and certain phases of metering work, to patrol and switch lines and equipment and to perform other related work.

  1. Assist, as directed, in the operations required in installing, removing and maintaining poles, towers, guys, arms, platforms and other components of line or equipment supporting structures, including erecting and replacing poles, attaching or removing arm assemblies, making up guy assemblies and assisting in other related operations.

  2. Assist employees of higher classification engaged in, or execute as specifically directed, the installation, removal and maintenance of line conductors, insulators and underground cables, including such operations as stringing, sagging, tying-in, rearranging and splicing conductors, coating slightly damaged insulators and associated work.

  3. Assist in or perform under direction, the less complex operations involved in the installing, removing and maintaining of transformers, switches, voltage regulators, constant current regulators, lightning arresters, cutouts and associated equipment items, performing the basic and the less involved skilled operations and assisting in the other operations.

  4. Install, remove and relocate services, entrance runs, metering enclosures and self-contained watt-hour meters, cooperate with meter personnel in installing and removing transformer rated watt-hour meters, maintain street lamp units by replacing lamps, cleaning glassware and painting fixtures and maintain services by relocating, retying and renewing wires and repairing racks and affiliated devices.

  5. Unload, reload, and store poles and assist in moving, transporting and relocating heavy pieces of substation equipment as required.

  6. Set out warning signs, clear project sites of obstacles and dig holes or trenches for poles, anchors or cable installations.

  7. Participate, as directed, in a variety of line work, such as tree trimming, driving truck, operating winch or derrick, tending payout or take up reel when required, making minor repairs to trucks, assisting in or performing patrolling and switching during emergencies, limited and less hazardous hot stick operations, checking of completed service work, equipment painting, tool reconditioning and other similar work.

  8. Perform, or assist in, under immediate supervision, such higher skilled or more involved operations as may be safely assigned, in order to provide comprehensive training by utilizing infrequent work opportunities or in order to cope with unusual situations.

  9. Maintain work equipment and areas in a clean, orderly condition, continuously observe Company safety rules and practices, check condition of safety equipment, attend scheduled safety meetings, participate in artificial respiration practice as required and become familiar with safety manuals, rules and special procedures prescribed by the Company.

  10. Perform other related work as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from high school or applicable equivalent either in job training or study.

  2. Two years of Company experience as Lineman Apprentice, of which one year should have been as Lineman Apprentice-2nd year.

  3. Demonstrated ability to climb and to execute duties on poles.

  4. Familiarity with tools and materials used in line work.

  5. Must qualify for automobile operator's license.
