This job opportunity is for an Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software) position in the Administrative and Data Capture Programming Unit, Programming Section, Information Technology Support Branch (ITSB) at the National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Bureau of the Census located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This full performance level position is responsible for a wide range of computer programming, analysis, network, and/or equipment assignments. This position is included in the bargaining unit.

The individual selected for this position will:
- Conduct feasibility studies and recommend appropriate courses of action
- Review current applications and make recommendations for improvement utilizing current system functionality
- Participate in most phases of projects, including advising on specification requirements and limitations
- Oversee the creation of general utility routines and systems and independently develop more complex routines and detailed systems
- Serve as the team leader, directing and utilizing the services of other IT Specialists assigned to the incumbent's area of responsiblity
- Provide assistance and/or training to other IT Specialists
Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Alternate Work Schedule. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Specialized Experience: You qualify at the grade 12 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 11 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Specialized experience is defined as contributing to the planning and development efforts for large-scale, multi-tiered tracking systems, ensuring adherence to established IT standards and policies, participating in the update and migration of legacy systems to newer software and platforms, and working with other IT Specialists and IT Administrative staff to gather and relay highly technical information.
Education cannot be substituted for experience at this level.
