Covance Work Flow Lead (Second Shift) in Indianapolis, Indiana

Job Overview:

The Workflow Lead will provide support to the Specimen Management team and supervisors by communicating daily workflow issues and is responsible for accurate resolution. Workflow Lead is responsible to research and resolve problem samples, liaising with other departments when needed and work with global counterparts to ensure processes and SOP’s are well defined and any problems are resolved in a timely manner.

The Workflow Lead will be performing their normal job assignments attached to their actual position, but they will be also accountable to monitor on a daily basis the assigned team workflow to ensure all priorities are completed.

2nd Shift- Tuesday-Saturday, 3pm-12am(midnight)

  • Identify and resolve workflow issues.

  • Organize daily meetings with others Workflow Coordinators to discuss workflow and pending issues as well to prioritize any critical task.

  • Directs and or Re-directs team members to accommodate volume changes and client deadlines.

  • Runs pending and watches EOD's to decrease backlog.

  • Helps manage and or alerts management of non-routine issues from the team inboxes and provides direction on problem issues as needed.

  • Provides on the spot training as needed.

  • Provides guidance and best practices for SM services.

  • Provides input on SOP's, policies, NSSO's, QTM's, training as needed.

  • Review SOW with Management and PM’s following the needs of new projects or modifications and ensures validation checklist are in place.

  • Covers for management and peers as needed in meetings, conference calls, on the bench and etc.

  • Act as mentor answering questions and providing other training as needed.

  • Pro-Actively monitor new and/or existing projects and communicating with management and SMART Database Loading Administrators on problem areas.

  • Demonstrate flexibility by doing other duties assigned, such as assisting in writing SOPs or acting as a subject matter expert for the department.

  • Act as on the job trainer for all aspects of the SM Assistant position for both new staff and continuing education of existing staff.

  • Assumes leadership role in the supervisor’s absence to include but not limited to:

  • Organizing assignments during the workday.

  • Acting as a support for both internal and external customers.


  • Four (4) year degree (scientific preferred)


  • 1 year applicable work experience

  • Able to work in a team as well as independently

  • Dynamic attitude and ability to work under pressure

  • Ability to take up challenges

  • Strong detail orientation

  • Organizational skills

  • Ability to use several software packages i.e. Word, Excel, Access
