Covance Research Associate Scientist - Discovery in Indianapolis, Indiana

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Research Associate Scientist- Discovery for our Companion Diagnostics group in Morrisville, NC. The Research Associate will perform, optimize, and analyze nucleic acid based assays to be used for Companion Diagnostics. They will perform laboratory experiments with a number of different technology platforms including but not limited to qPCR and DNA sequencing methods. They will be responsible for data analysis and interpretation of the results. The job includes writing and reviewing of technical documents such as method SOP's and other documents for development of diagnostic products under Design Control as described in 21 CFR 820. The job also includes some general laboratory maintenance activities.

The job duties include laboratory hands-on work and data analysis. The job will include assay development, optimization, trouble shooting, and validation of novel nucleic acid based biomarker assays. Specific job activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • DNA and RNA extractions from various biological materials including whole blood and formalin fixed tissue specimens, using manual and automated methods.

  • Running of PCR and qPCR instruments.

  • DNA sequencing by Sanger and NGS methods.

  • Use of computer software for and data analysis.

  • Writing and reviewing technical documents such as SOPs and Design Control documents.

  • Maintenance of the laboratory in a regulated environment.


Required: Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline.


3-5 years hands-on laboratory experience in nucleic acids isolation and analysis.

Proven expertise and track record in qPCR and related laboratory techniques and data analysis.
