Position Summary

Responsible for Quality Assurance and Food Safety compliance and the maintenance of all departmental programs. Serve as a back up to Quality Assurance Manager and supervise departmental staffing within the facility while working closely with operations team to ensure food safety, product quality and compliance.

Minimum Requirements


Bachelor's Degree (Required) Business

or Food Service or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Job Experience

. Experience in a food manufacturing, ready-to-eat (RTE), or USDA cook facility preferred. Knowledge of produce and warehouse operations preferred.

Knowledge of GMP?s, HACCP, ARPC, USDA-AMS and FDA manufacturing regulations, as well as basic food microbiological knowledge/experience.

Supervisory Experience


Responsibilities and Essential Duties

Supervise the day to day activities of the quality assurance department; ensure the high quality standards of the company are upheld and food safety compliance and the maintenance of departmental programs including but not limited to HACCP, Food Safety Program, Food Defense, BRC/SQF, Quality Specification, Regulatory Compliance, Organic Plan, Allergen Program, and cGMP?s.

Understand the preferences for the various customers and ensure proper quality and quantity for customer orders; express neatness and care through proper order selection. Prepare/verify samples according to appropriate product specifications.

Operate and maintain mechanical food processing equipment; must comply with facility rules in regard to usage and traffic flow and enforce safe and effective use of equipment. Ensure team is properly trained.

Ensure the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment. This may include, but is not limited to: Ensure compliance with company procedures and governmental regulations (i.e., safety, sanitation, etc.); Oversee and ensure the cleanliness of the work environment; Ensure proper maintenance of and report any issues related to equipment, and ensure proper training to operating and maintain mechanical equipment; and Promote and reinforce safety and effective use of equipment and compliance with facility procedures regarding usage and traffic flow; and Report and/or address any issues or work-related injuries, and participate in any investigations as required.

Check chemical substances for usage and correctly add/dilute chemicals as needed; change wash water as needed. Measure sensory aspect of raw commodities (i.e. brix measurements). Correctly identify labeling issues and communicate with appropriate personnel to correct them; complete a daily pre-operational inspection of processing rooms and equipment; collect pre-op microbiological swabs as needed; maintain temperature logs; ensure proper slotting for finished product.

Complete and/or review various daily quality/HACCP/BRC/USDA/FDA paperwork to ensure it is neat and legible and follow and execute the quarantine program.

Responsible for instrument calibration/verification: scales, thermometers, ph-meters, micro-swabs, ATP testing devices, etc.

Create and maintain a fair work schedule for all Quality Assurance associates.

Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.

Maintain current knowledge of USDA regulations, federal inspections and sanitation regulations, industry trends and best food preparation practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to ensure company legal compliance. Maintain product knowledge to include sizes, varieties, sensitivity, location, and background of produce and USDA products

Knowledge, Skills Abilities

Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate, collaborate, and delegate efficiently with associates. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish preferred). Must be able to multi-task and have good follow through to meet deadlines. Must have good leadership and training skills; ability to work with all levels of management and line associates. Ability to evaluate and develop processes, specifications and preventative controls for ongoing quality assurance. Must be able to comply with company/government rules and regulations. Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs. Knowledge of warehouse operations, metal detector operations and experience with produce distribution preferred. Understanding of USDA regulations and OSHA requirements preferred.

The noise level in the work environment varies; food production setting may be low to moderate; distribution center setting may be moderate to high.
