Organization Overview:

The Global Lab Information and Data Solutions (IDS) team delivers and maintains applications that support the Global Lab organization at Lilly. This team is part of the broader Manufacturing and Quality (M&Q) IDS organization that continues to transform as we look to the digital plant of the future and support manufacturing operational excellence and productivity efforts maximizing the use of technology and analytics.

The Global Lab IDS team works in partnership with the Global Lab business central and site representatives to define business needs and provide solutions for Lab. This team is responsible for the support and solution delivery of IT tools that support the Global Lab business application portfolio, such as LIMS, LES, ELN, CDS.


A key role in the Global Lab organization is the Lab Solution Delivery and Support Engineer position. This position will focus on the following key elements: -Deploy and maintain custom and off the shelf solutions in the Manufacturing Analytical Laboratories as well as ensure the connectivity between lab instruments and LES and CDS. Manage the LCM of the application and related infrastructure.

This position will report to the Global IDS Manager for Lab

  • Deliver IT solutions that are aligned with enterprise IT and QC Lab goals

  • Influence life cycle decisions

  • Establishment of appropriate processes to ensure Lilly IT evolves to achieve future architecture direction

  • Deep understanding of IT Tools used by the M&Q Laboratories, the configuration of those tools, and how these tools interact to support the business processes and anticipate short term and future needs

  • Lead, manage and participate in key projects, understanding business impact, quantifying resources, evaluating technical options, and delivering results on time.

  • Provide guidance on validation and test strategy and the use of automation testing

  • Work with Global Quality Laboratories leadership (GQL), site IT Team, and Enterprise IT architecture on cross-organizational issues

  • Responsible for the resolution of any problems and incidents for the supported solutions in compliance with applicable processes

  • Ensure application and compliance to Lilly Standards and Quality rules

  • Write or oversee creation and update of validation documentation for the supported systems

  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert with vendors and external partners

  • Partner with the business to define the next gen set of solutions for the function

  • Support regulatory inspections

  • Provide oversight to the Tier 1 support team

  • Interface with GQL team, Automation and QC Labs to maximize the efficiency of lab processes using robotics.

  • Integration of lab equipment, robotic and automated testing systems with Lab applications like LES and LIMS

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant manufacturing or QC Lab IT experience

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Knowledge of QC Lab operations or Manufacturing operations

  • Hands on experience in supporting Lab applications like LES, LIMS, ELN, CDS

  • Understanding of Data Solutions and visualizations

  • Knowledge of S95 Architecture Model

  • Ability to thrive in a complex, changing, virtual environment with multiple manufacturing sites

  • Demonstrated learning agility both technically as well as business processes and applications

  • Demonstrated initiative to build relationships, learn new business processes and identify opportunities

  • Demonstrated ability to influence peers and business partners

  • Knowledge of GAMP/FDA/EMEA validation standards, understanding of GMP, GLP and CRF 21 part 11

  • Manufacturing Site experience

  • Pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience

  • Experience with interfacing automated equipment with Lab systems

  • Experience with automation control and robotic

  • Experience with automation testing (United Function Testing) and robotic process automation

  • Understanding of Agile methodology

  • Experience with HP ALM and coding platforms like GitHub

Additional Information:

  • Travel to US or other Lilly entities may be required.

  • After hours support due to manufacturing 24/7 operations may be required

  • Position is located at LTC but currently working from home

  • This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed term position up to a maximum of 4 years
