The Application Portfolio Lead, Engineering Systems owns accountability for the delivery of the evolution, support and maintenance of Black & Veatch’s engineering systems, software tools, and data across all business units and geographies.
Portfolio responsibility includes technology vision, rationalization, deployment, and business process support for the following technologies:
Desktop Engineering Applications (Autodesk, Bentley, Hexagon, and other CAD/CAE tools)
Desktop Productivity Applications (PDF tools, Digital Signatures, Microsoft, etc.)
GIS Systems (ESRI, Imagery platforms, etc.)
Applications Infrastructure & Licenses
Applications Deployment (Packaging, Virtualization, and Removals)
The Application Portfolio Lead will collaborate within multiple stakeholder groups throughout the B&V enterprise to implement and extend engineering systems and practices. This role will provide important cross-functional leadership between engineering and support teams to identify business process or support needs, identify potential solutions that align to the portfolio vision, and lead implementation efforts.
Application Portfolio Lead for B&V Engineering Enterprise Systems
Lead and advise business users company-wide in the creation and maintenance of desktop and enterprise engineering systems which include but are not limited to Bentley, Autodesk, and Intergraph technology platforms.
Releases: Plan what will be delivered and the timeline for implementation. Define the release process and drive all the activities required for the release. This involves bridging gaps between different functions within the company and aligning all the teams involved.
Coordinate maintenance/configuration/customization needs to third party IT service provider(s).
Support, educate and assist business use and adoption of engineering tools and processes.
Identify and implement changes that optimize and automate engineering business processes to create improvements and competitive advantage for B&V.
Identify training needs for B&V professionals and coordinate or conduct training programs accordingly.
Establish and Maintain Global Engineering Tool and Data Competency Practices
Vision and Strategy: Responsible for planning and technical execution of projects throughout the product lifecycle to create improvements and competitive advantage for B&V.
Internal Processes: Work cross-functionally and with other teams to ensure application decisions are in alignment with the overall portfolio strategy.
Services Support: Work with the business to manage engineering information needs in coordination with internal staff and 3rd party provider(s).
Partner with the Business: Solve business problems by analyzing business needs, understanding requirements, investigating potential solutions, and ensuring the successful launch of the solutions.
Quality Assurance: Provide oversight to assure in-scope policies, practices, and solutions are consistently implemented.
Adoption: Roadmap, develop, coordinate and manage implementation of modern engineering data, technology, and processes.
Training and Education: Identify training needs for B&V professionals and coordinate or conduct training programs as necessary to support appropriate application use.
Measure: Establish and maintain performance metrics that enable proactive management of the engineering applications portfolio and performance & availability of engineering applications & processes
Accountable for Management of 3rd Party IT Service Providers and Software License Optimization
Become a partner with 3rd party providers in the strategic analysis of the current environment and planning of future-state delivery practices that will capture/manage the intellectual property of B&V.
Ensure proper partner engagement with business decision makers to determine engineering systems and data requirements, and scope into attainable work product (projects, SOWs and deliverables).
Manage supplier outcomes as agreed and committed.Lead and proactively manage the establishment of best practice software usage monitoring
Establish processes, procedures and data analysis that optimize the product through continuous applications rationalization.
Responsible for all outcomes related to the product
10+ years progressive experience in IT, engineering and construction practices, and engineering applications including leading large-scale projects and initiatives in a complex organizationSoftware Application Management
Experience – 3+ years
Engineering Systems and Technology Management – 3+ years
Engineering Process Automation – 2+ years
Background in designing, building and maintaining enterprise design and modeling environments
Experience supporting engineering design tools and enterprise systems
Experience in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) industry
