Job Title: Apparatus Shop Technician

Reports To: Apparatus Shop Manager

Job Summary: Performs electrical apparatus work that is brought into the shop. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, upgrades and repairs to circuit breakers, switchgear, relay panels, reclosers, regulators and transformers.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Retrofit, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild and test the follow electrical apparatus:

  • 480V-72kV air, vacuum and SF6 circuit breakers

  • Switchgear and switches

  • Reclosers, regulators and transformers

  • Operate specialized equipment including primary/secondary current injection test sets, insulation analyzers, contact resistance meters, multi-meters, clamp-on ammeters, breaker time/travel analyzers, power factor test sets, and CT analyzers

  • Complete required paperwork and ensure test reports are submitted in PowerDB accurately and on time

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings

  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed, and personal protective equipment is utilized

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with industry standards such as PEARL, NETA, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations

  • Knowledge of electrical apparatus testing with a strong theoretical understanding of electrical power systems

  • Documentation of projects to insure proper placement of parts and wiring. i.e. diagrams, photos etc.

  • Strong mechanical skills required

  • Must have excellent troubleshooting abilities

  • Must be organized and have excellent attention to detail

  • PowerDB knowledge preferred

  • Ability to work independently while utilizing excellent judgment

  • Must have intermediate level computer skills including Microsoft Office

Work Environment:

  • Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but depending on the scope of work, hours outside of business hours may be required

  • Must be located within 60 miles of Premier Power Maintenance’s Corporate Office

  • Must be willing to occasionally travel overnight to job sites

Education and Work Experience:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED

  • Three years of similar work experience is required

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, education verification, motor vehicle report, physical abilities test and an approved hair and urine drug screen

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must have or be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs. CDL license preferred

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.

  • Must be willing to obtain a company paid OSHA 10 hour, NFPA 70-E and CPR training
