The Methodist Hospitals PAINTER-JOURNEYMAN in Gary, Indiana

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Plant Operations (MPO), this position is responsible for applications of various types of interior and exterior finishes in a hospital environment. Performs all painting in a professional and cost effective manner.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

  • Applies covering to walls such as vinyl paper or acoustical fabric whenever specified.

  • Applies paints, varnishes, stain enamels or lacquers to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures as job dictates.

  • Prepares daily painter reports and submits to MPO on a monthly basis.

  • Prepares surfaces to be painted, fills nail holes, joints and cracks as needed.

  • Sands and scrapes to ensure a smooth surface to accept finish.

  • Performs dry walling and minor repair of plaster walls when needed.

  • Protects surfaces by removing items such as switch plates and by using masking tape and drop cloths on a daily basis.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Completed approved painters' apprenticeship and holds a Journeyman's card.

  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of the hospital.

  • Ability to clearly see objects at a distance as well as close up to perform the job.

  • Ability to give and take verbal communications.

  • Must be alert and able to concentrate on work.

  • Ability to give and take verbal communications.

  • Provide compassionate, quality health services for employees, physicians and customers.

  • Completed approved painters' apprenticeship and holds a Journeyman's card.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required

  • Completed approved painters' apprenticeship

  • 4 Painter Required
