Kelly Services is currently seeking a Department Manager of Fleet Maintenance for one of their top steel companies in the Gary, IN area.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Steel Mill Services

Title: Site Manager Department: Maintenance

Reports to: General Manager

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Significant impact on Earnings/Revenues/Expenses.

  • Complete responsibility for the safe and proper operation and maintenance of all equipment, as well as maintaining a competent workforce capable of operating the total facility at optimum production cost levels.

  • Establishes and maintains product quality and supervises shipment of material to and from the Site at maximum efficiency.

  • Maintains a diary of activity.

  • Thoroughly investigates and reports without delay, any accident involving company personnel or equipment that occurs in the area of responsibility.

  • Complete responsibility for the neat appearance of all facilities at the operation.

  • Establishes and maintains production of materials and inventory stockpiles as dictated by customer requirements.

  • Supervises the preparation of periodic reports for the regional and corporate offices.

  • Responsible for the implementation and execution of the Site budget/business plan.

  • Close Liaison with General Manager Close liaison with client steel mill's Operation Supervisors, equipment operators first line operating supervision.

  • Recommends methods and procedures for profit improvement.

  • Establishes and maintains customer relationships and develops new sales of services and products through knowledge of customer needs.

  • Selects, trains, and appraises all subordinates and recommends promotions and salary adjustments. Authorizes hires, discharges, transfers and reassignments. Administers labor relations policy.

  • Informs Operations Manager of all matters affecting productivity and profitability.

  • Work under frequent pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Integrate interdependent activities of other employees.

  • Communicate technical ideas to employees in other areas.

  • Develop and maintain long-range perspective of opportunities and problems confronting the company

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Preferred: Undergraduate degree in Engineering desirable

  • Held previous positions in Heavy Industry, construction or mining

  • Preferred 5-10 years experience in steel mill and/or quarry and mining operations.

  • Broad knowledge of equipment utilization and maintenance; thorough knowledge of steel mill operations and bulk material handling techniques. Must possess strong management and communication skills.

  • Preferred experience with heavy industry machinery: trucks, loaders, scrap haulers, etc.
