This role is located at our Frankfort, IN location and directly reports to our HQ Purchasing Team, along with dotted line reporting to Frankfort Operations. The role is salaried exempt and generally works Monday through Friday, during the day.
Position Summary
Understands customer requirements, solicits bids and negotiates pricing and terms for material, supplies, equipment and services. Performs and coordinates administrative activities in support of the purchasing function and completes related work, as required. This role is a regular, full time salaried role, working Monday-Friday during the day. It will be based out of our Headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan and will report through our purchasing department leadership.
Position Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
Receives and reviews requests for material, goods or services for accuracy, confers with department representatives to determine specific needs, taking into consideration department budgets, market conditions and availability.
Analyzes market conditions, keeps up to date on trends, explores sources of commodities, and studies new products, researches all requests for (all or specific) products and commodities.
Prepares requests for bid and contacts suppliers for bid quotations. Analyzes bids received; issues purchase orders, prepares and monitors contracts to ensure supplier compliance to terms and customer requirements.
Communicates with suppliers to obtain product or service information, such as price, part specifications, material availability and delivery schedule.
Understands the supply chain cycle that applies to specific commodities, including logistics and freight requirements and special handling.
Selects products for purchase by testing, observing or examining items.
Maintains supply base - assess ability to meet quality requirements; suitability of product, price, and delivery capabilities; existing problems; or solidify working relationships.
Maintains procurement records, such as purchase orders, contracts, agreements, request for quotations, and quotations, pricing, delivery, product quality or performance issues and inventories.
Works on ERP system improvements to reduce errors and transaction time.
Prepares and presents special reports to various groups, provides training upon request.
Achieves annual cost reduction targets to support the higher levels goals of the organization
Works with the supervisor and Director on Conflict Mineral Reporting Program. Attends training and becomes a subject matter expert. Captures supplier requests, prepares and submits templates to customers on a timely basis.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications-Education/Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree - supply chain/purchasing related
At least 6 months full time experience or internship experience in supply chain/purchasing
Effective negotiating skills
Proficient computer skills
Organizational skills, with great attention to detail
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment and also perform duties independently, with minimal direction
Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to learn quickly in the role
Preferred:
- Proficient Google for Work experience
Travel Requirements
May travel to suppliers and plants in the future
