With recent program wins, we are looking for software developers to join our team in Fort Wayne, IN, to be part of a cross-discipline engineering team in the development of our next generation sensors and payloads.

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer for Spectral Solutions programs with experience in Agile/SCRUM and DevOps. The Lead Software Engineer will work closely with a cross-discipline team (electrical, mechanical, optical, thermal, simulation and modeling, and system engineers) performing full software lifecycle development for space-borne spectral sensors that includes embedded software. Must be a team player able to work in a large program environment, have strong communication skills, and be a self-starter. Some travel required.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with multi-discipline team to define software system based on customer requirements

  • Requirements analysis and management including generation of requirements and interface specifications

  • Software architecture definition using UML

  • Developing cost estimates

  • Writing proposals

  • Creating and supporting trade studies in definition of the system solution

  • Documenting software solutions per customer requirements

  • Developing technical presentations

  • Interfacing with internal and external software customers.

  • Enforcing and improving the program and company level software processes.

  • Producing, interpreting, and reporting software metrics (defects, etc.) to enterprise-level leadership

  • Managing risk associated with the software and participating in program level risk management team.

  • Participation in software reviews

  • Management and definition of software system technical performance measures


  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience

  • Minimum 7 years of software development experience with an expertise in embedded software development using C++

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and DevOps

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Secret Clearance or higher

  • Leadership experience developing software systems with varying software technologies used in payload and satellite ground systems

  • Understanding of CMMI Level 3 software development processes

  • Knowledge of object-oriented architectural styles and design patterns

  • Algorithm definition and development

  • Experience with cyber security requirements

  • Background in image processing, remote sensing, and/or environmental processing

  • Familiarity with the Earned Value Management System and application of its metrics to manage cost, schedule, and explain variances in a large effort

  • Control account management experience

  • Experience with supervision of software engineers.

  • TS/SCI Clearance capability
