CNO Financial Group Sr. Infrastructure Architect - End User Technology (Non-VDI) in Carmel, Indiana

The Senior Infrastructure Architect independently defines technology implementation roadmaps that detail the implementation of initiatives to enhance a secured scalable Infrastructure environment. Typically, is responsible for multiple complex infrastructure technologies within a domain. Develops plans for the ongoing support and governance of previously implemented initiatives. Works within significant limits and authority on assignments requiring high technical complexity and coordination. Leads projects and has accountability for ongoing activities and objectives. May manage parts of enterprise-wide projects.

Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Under limited direction, is typically responsible for multiple common (sometimes diverse) Infrastructure Technologies in a Domain (i.e. Microsoft Windows Operating System, Storage Systems, Linux, Virtualization, Automation, Apache, Tomcat, WAS, Oracle, SQL, etc.). Adheres to infrastructure guidelines, design patterns, and standards as determined and set into policy. Develops roadmap of the evolution of the infrastructure in-scope from current to future state. Identify, analyze, and recommend technologies for approval based on an understanding and business requirements. Facilitate improved delivery of proposed solutions, by identification and documentation of technical and architecture technology requirements to be executed by our third party partner in a timely, cost effective, and integrated fashion. Work with implementation teams to assess and review the architectural implementation of systems and projects to ensure conformance with defined architectural standards. Solves specific implementation challenges while encouraging adherence to architectural and infrastructure standards. Analyze IT area drivers to determine corresponding architectural impact. Assess and gather the (skills, processes, structures or culture) and financial impact of proposed strategies. Define specifications that conform to architectural principles and ensure standards are upheld and exceptions are managed. Document all architecture design and analysis work Work with peer architects in other areas to ensure clear lines of communication, common architectural and capability assumptions. Collaborates with business partners, software engineers, technology and operations leadership to advance business outcomes and architectural concerns. Works with 3rd party vendors and the Managed Services team to develop and implement technology enabled roadmaps. Selects and evaluates software/hardware product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations. Verifies compliance with all technical requirements. Trains and acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Strong working knowledge of multiple Infrastructure or technical design areas and strong understanding of Infrastructure methodologies and technologies Works independently with limited guidance. Strong knowledge of major components of a technical architecture. Has an understanding of the latest developments or changes of market conditions in the industry. Strong ability to develop solution patterns and architectural specifications and can work closely with other teams to implement them successfully. Solid understanding of information processing principles and practices Strong knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards; knowledge of software/hardware evaluation principles and practices. Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements. Understands and comprehends the functions and capabilities of new technologies; estimates the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives. Has exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments. Strong interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork and facilitation. Strong written and verbal communication skills; good planning and organizational skills.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, or related computing major required, or equivalent experience. Typically, a minimum of five years of experience designing and implementing infrastructure solutions, and in multiple of the following disciplines:

  • Network Administration

  • Server OS Administration

  • Storage Administration

  • Solution Architecture

  • Data Center Architecture

  • Database Administration

  • Middleware Administration

  • End User Computing Administration

  • Messaging Systems Administration

Typically, has at least two related industry certifications.

Additionally: Looking for someone who can evaluate environment, end user requirements, use cases , etc. and then in turn, seek and evaluate the proper hardware configuration to support the requirements. Create roadmaps in coordination with the manufacturers to reflect end point hardware lifecyle turnover, timing of device replacement and next gen hardware specs. Additionally, they will be responsible for the creation of the GOLD image for end user laptop devices and the maintenance and update schedules and process to maintain that GOLD image for our run and build teams to execute. They will set standards for tools evaluations for office automation tools, for operating system upgrades (timing, sequencing, frequency, standard deployment), document and follow security hardening standards in cooperation with our Cybersecurity team, and review and update software packaging process standards within a standard frequency. They will be responsible for setting operating system, hardware, and office automation tools roadmaps, evaluating new tools to introduce to the environment, submission of tools for consideration in front of the Architecture review board, and ensuring they meet compliance and regulatory guidelines. They will additionally be responsible for reviewing patch and updates being released for pertinence to our environment, approving patch baselines, approving test results of those patch baselines, and representing the patch baseline for release in the change board meetings.

This person will be consistently abreast of leading edge technologies in the end user space from both a device and office automation tools perspective, along with on top of best deployment and imaging methods and security standards.
