Position Description:

Maintenance Coordinator (Surface-Hourly) – Dragline Maintenance

Nature of Position

This individual is responsible for the planning of and coordination of repair and preventive maintenance activities on draglines , rope shovels and when needed all other surface mine equipment to insure the safe, economical and efficient operation of the machinery. This will include the development and implementation of equipment repair strategies with special emphasis on safety, minimizing equipment downtime, and repair cost control.



Surface mining / construction equipment maintenance experience required.

Five (5) years of experience trouble shooting and maintaining large off-highway diesel equipment required.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) experience is desirable.

Computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word are a requirement. Company SAP Maintenance Work Order System and other company computer programs will be taught on the job.

Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Technical school or additional education is a plus.

Dragline, electric shovel experience desired. Welding experience desired..

Knowledge of computer applications (MS Office, EQMAINT, SAP desired) for short and long range planning activities, to evaluate overall effectiveness, manpower requirements, manpower utilization and schedule changes.


Must demonstrate good management skills related to equipment maintenance goals. Must be able to work in a continuously changing work environment and deal with ever-changing priorities.

Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to coordinate with co-workers and supervisors.

Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal mining regulations. Must have high safety standards for self and others.

Subject to occasional emergency call-outs to support maintenance department with high-priority repair.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Principal Accountabilities

Assists site Maintenance Manager and Supervisors with short term and long term maintenance planning, coordinating repair material acquisition and scheduling maintenance work in a manner to compliment the site operational goals.

Extensive interaction with OEM’s and supply vendors to coordinate timely acquisition and delivery of materials for repair, both planned and breakdown. This effort will require continuous interaction with company supply chain systems and personnel.

Through the use of company computer systems, ensure equipment maintenance history is accurately documented. This is a key element to managing current repair backlog and future maintenance planning, forecasting, and budgeting.

Establish service intervals, preventative maintenance procedures, and component replacement schedules.

Prepares and reviews maintenance and repair reports; studies and analyzes costs for potential improvements.

Participate in failed component disassembly to identify failure reasons and then investigate changes to eliminate or lessen chances or repeat failures.

Keeps abreast of latest maintenance methods and equipment through technical publications and vendor representative interaction.

May be required to fill in for maintenance supervisors during vacations, off-site training, illness, etc.

Physical Requirements, Surface Operations

Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.

Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.

Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift.

Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination.

Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
